OVERVIEW

The Norwegian Spirit started her career in 1999 as Star Cruise's SuperStar Leo. As the Superstar Leo, she sailed through Asia, mainly catering to Asian Clientele. Even today, as the Norwegian Spirit, the ship has a deep Asian feel. The colorful carpeting, artwork and specialty food establishments have an far east flair. The subtle Asian influence sets the Norwegian Spirit apart from other ships and creates a welcoming environment.

Once you board the Norwegian Spirit, you are immediately greeted by the large Grand Centrum. The Multi-deck area of the ship, is the hub of activity with live music, a Champaign bar, Pursers desk, shops and glass enclosed elevators. The area has a Romanesque feel and a  sense of grandeur. The Grand Centrum  is the center of activity onboard the Norwegian Spirit.

The Norwegian Spirit features NCL's signature Freestyle Cruising. Included in FreeStyle cruising is:

  • The ability to dine when you want, with whom you want.
  • A relaxed dress code.
  • Freestyle dining, where you can choose your dining room and to some degree your menu.
  • The Norwegian Spirit offers a variety of specialty restaurants including an Italian, Japanese and  Asian restaurants. The ship also has a New York Steakhouse.
  • For less formal dining, there is the Blue Lagoon, which is a 24 hour food court featuring everything from hamburgers to fast-wok dishes. Note: The Tai Pan Bistro, Shogun Asian Restaurant and Cagney's Steakhouse  require an additional cover charge due to a more exclusive menu and enhanced service.
  • A very nice feature of FreeStyle Cruising is not having to wake up at 6:00 AM on the morning of disembarkation, FreeStyle Cruising allows you to remain in your cabin and eat breakfast at a more normal hour.

Food onboard the Norwegian Spirit is very tasty and elegantly presented. Most nights there are choices of  beef, chicken or seafood entrees to accompany the four other courses. When on board the ship, I found the food  to be very good and of high quality.

The Dining Room Service was exceptional and the waiters and busboys are always willing to make your dining experience delightful.

The entertainment onboard NCL ships is always of the highest quality. Singers, Dancers and Acrobats are normally part of the entertainment as well as magicians and comedians. Live music is available in the show lounges for your dancing pleasure at different times throughout the evening. The disco is another option for those who want to boogie-down.

The Ship features numerous bars and lounges including:

  • The Main showroom - the Stardust Theater which seats 899 people and has the ambiance of a traditional European Opera House. The theater spans two decks and provides passengers with a excellent view of that evening's entertainment.
  • The Celebrity Disco is ideal for dancing to the rhythmic disco beats.
  • The cozy Smoking Room features hand-rolled premium cigars, cognacs and spirits.
  • The Galaxy of the Stars Observation Lounge provides excellent views of the surrounding seas by day. At night it provide an excellent venue to have an after dinner drink or dance to the band.
  • The Bier Garten located outside on Deck 10 features snacks and premium beers. While Champagne Charlie's Champagne Bar caters to more sophisticated tastes.
  • The those who want to show their talents, there is the Shanghai Bar where Karaoke is a favorite pastime.
  • Henry's Pub is a traditional English Pub and features darts, a pool table and Big Screen TV.
  • The Cafe - located in the Lobby - is ideal for a piece of cake, cookies or a cup of coffee.

For the active vacationer, the Norwegian Spirit has:

  • The Trivoli Pool where you can lounge in the sun or go for a quick dip.
  • The Aqua swim provides a workout as you swim in the jet exercise pool.
  • The Norwegian Spirit boasts 4 hot tubs ideal for releasing stress.
  • The Roman Spa & fitness center, where for an additional charge, you can indulge in a full array of spa treatments and pampering.
  • A jogging and walking track to burn off some of those calories consumed at the buffet.
  • For the sports minded there is a full basket ball court, a golf driving range and full gymnasium.

If you like, try your luck at the Maharajah Casino, This dark casino has very unique seating with chairs and sofas very close the ground. The room is adults only - which many passengers seemed to like. The room features a full array of slot machine and table games of chance in addition to a bar.

The ship features a:

  • Card Room,
  • Writing Room,
  • Library,
  • Duty Free Shops - featuring Alcohol, Jewelry and souvenirs.
  • Hair and Beauty Salon
  • Conference area and 5 meeting rooms accommodating about 18 people each.

The crew on the Norwegian Spirit are very professional and genuinely concerned with making your vacation experience enjoyable. The crew always greets you with a smile, a friendly welcome and always willing to assist.

For the Kids there is an extensive kids program. In addition to the basketball courts, arcade and swimming pools the ship features 4 groups of kids programs broken up into age groups. The activities for each groups is age appropriate and will keep the children very busy. All ship sponsored kids activities are supervised by ship's counselors.

Located at the aft of the ship is Buccaneer's Wet and Wild. This area is a pirate-themed children's pool, featuring a slide and a hot tub for kids (which the adults tend to use).

The Norwegian Spirit is a very colorful ship making use of very bright colors. Each deck of the ship is color coded to help passengers find their cabins. The ship does feature some very brightly colored bed covering that jump out at you when you enter your cabin.

All cabins viewed were quite large and had ample storage space for a two week cruise. The cabins are cheerful, well appointed and very clean.

The ship features inside, outside and Balcony cabins as well as suites some with access to private deck space and pools.

Bathrooms onboard the ship are quite functional and equivalent to most found aboard modern ships.

Wherever you turn aboard Norwegian Spirit, you'll discover something new. Like 11 restaurants and nine exciting bars and lounges. And with NCL's Freestyle Cruising, your choices are endless - feel like starting your day at the pool? Take a dip. Or pamper yourself, get a manicure, roll some dice, shoot some hoops, get a hot stone massage - the possibilities are endless. Norwegian Spirit's accommodations give you whatever you need to vacation your way. There's something for everyone including spacious suites, over 300 family friendly connecting staterooms and nearly 600 ocean view staterooms - most with private balconies - perfect for making your cruise to the Bahamas, Caribbean or Canada & New England just that - yours.
