9-27-2011 - Saint John New Brunswick Canada  is building a second cruise terminal and expanding its berth capacity in a bid to draw more ships.

The new cruise pier will be built adjacent to the existing Marco Polo Cruise Terminal which can accommodate the largest cruise ships up to 1,246 feet long.

Construction of the new terminal and wharf fortification will begin this fall. The end product will be a new pier which can accommodate cruise vessels up to 1,115 feet long.

Additionally, improvements will be made to nearby Saint John's Long Wharf, so that ships up to 1,049 feet long can dock there as will provide St. John the ability to dock 3 large ships simultaneously.

Construction work is slated to be completed by early summer 2012.
