Jamaica Government Makes Major Investment in Ocho Rios.

9-27-2011 Feeling the pressure from the new Port of Falmouth, the Port of Ocho Rios is in a defensive position trying to keep the cruise lines interested. 

The Jamaican Government is expecting to spend upwards of $21 Million dollars over a 5 year period to revitalize the city of Ocho Rios. Improvement include Infrastructure enhancements, attraction development and improvements to the Reynolds and Ocho Rios Piers.

Included in the enhancements is the creation of an arts and craft village where visitors can purchase unique handmade crafts. Other investments will include the general beautification of the city.

Jamaica has struggled over the years maintaining multiple cruise ports. Several years ago, Montego Bay was the main cruise port only to be displaced (for the most part) by Ocho Rios. The Jamacian Government is being proactive with Ocho Rios to assure it is not displaced by Falmouth which has just recently opened and Royal Caribbean Cruise Line is a major investor.
