On Tuesday, February 17, 2009 - MSC MAGNIFICA
was floated out of dry
dock B and transferred to the Penhoet dock at the STX Europe shipyard,
previously known as the Aker Yards, in Saint Nazaire, France.
MSC Magnifica is the latest MSC cruise ship to be built
at STX Europe and sister ship to the acclaimed MSC Poesia, launched in April
2008 in MSC Cruises’ “Musica Class”. Approximately 40 STX Europe personnel and
6 tugs were involved in the operation, which took a total of 24 hours.
After a spectacular christening ceremony in Hamburg,
the new ‘Musica’ class vessel comes into service in March 2010. MSC Magnifica
will carry 2,518 passengers, most of them enjoying the luxury of a sea-facing
cabins with private balconies. Lucky guests on MSC Magnifica will be expertly
looked after by a crew of over 1,000.
